Exactly. I spend a lot because I want to. I stay in budget hotels which are too rich for your blood (as you said on Twitter), and I don’t think about spending money on food.
That said, even I only spent about $20K traveling for a good chunk of a whole year.

This is the first time I’ve ever had a job with actual vacation days, when I was on contract you were looked DOWN on when you wanted to take more than 2 days off in a row. Le sigh. So I have 10 (working) days that are all mine and I want to use them efficiently dammit!

I hope I can take some time to travel in the future! Right now, I have zero vacation days, and only 7 Holidays. Other than that, it’s up to my boss, who is pretty good about letting me take a week or 10 days to see my family…but I wouldn’t want to give up the time to see my family in order to travel, so traveling will have to wait until I have a job with real vacation time!
That’s awesome that you got to travel for so long! I’m amazed at how little you spent, too!
